Juvenes Translatores Winners

Well done to our students for taking part in the Juvenes Translatores competition last November. We were not lucky this time, but it was a really nice experience and we are really proud of you!

B Vramsmo, who took part in the competition, wrote about his experience:

Bonjour! In my last term at Pitsford, Dr Cabrera found me and asked if I would like to take part in the Juvenes Translatores competition, hosted (ironically) by the EU Commission, which I accepted. Children of 17 years old could take part in an international translation competition against others of the same age across the entirety of the EU. Having studied French AS I decided to give it a go and I was tasked with an email from a supposed penpal written in French. I had to translate the text into English and the winner was whoever provided the best translation. i.e. the translation that read the best and was most accurate. To everyone’s shock and surprise this was not me, however I am graced with a “Certificate of Participation” which I boast is one of a kind (at Pitsford).
I believe translation is very important and being able to speak/write more than one language is an invaluable life skill that I will definitely benefit from later in life.
I give any future Juvenes Translatores participants from Pitsford the best of luck and join me in my very elite club 😉 by B Vramsmo
